Zapotec language

Zapotec is a group of related indigenous languages spoken primarily in the Oaxaca region of Mexico. It has a rich history dating back thousands of years and features a complex system of tones, vowel sounds, and vowel length that distinguish meanings. Zapotec is part of the Otomanguean language family and includes numerous dialects, some of which are mutually unintelligible. Despite challenges from Spanish influence, it remains a vital part of Zapotec cultural identity, with efforts underway to preserve and revitalize the language through education and community initiatives.
