Yusuf ibn Tashfin
Yusuf ibn Tashfin (c. 1016–1106) was a prominent Berber leader and the founder of the Almoravid dynasty in North Africa and Spain. Originally a leader of the Sanhaja tribe, he united various Berber groups and expanded his influence into al-Andalus (Muslim Spain) during the 11th century. He is best known for his military campaigns against Christian kingdoms and for establishing a strict interpretation of Islam that emphasized adherence to religious law.
