WWI convoys

During World War I, allied nations used convoys as a military strategy to protect merchant ships from German U-boat attacks in the Atlantic. A convoy consisted of a group of cargo ships traveling together, escorted by warships. This approach aimed to increase safety in numbers, as attacking a group of ships was more challenging for submarines. Convoys helped ensure the delivery of essential supplies to troops and maintain trade, significantly reducing the success rate of U-boat attacks and contributing to the eventual success of the Allies in the war.
