Woolly Mammoth

The Woolly Mammoth was a large, tusked mammal that lived during the last Ice Age, approximately 400,000 to 4,000 years ago. It had long, shaggy fur and a hump of fat on its back, adapting it to cold environments. Related to today’s elephants, they roamed across parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. Woolly Mammoths primarily grazed on grasses, shrubs, and other vegetation. Overhunting by humans and climate change are thought to be significant factors in their extinction. Today, the Woolly Mammoth is a symbol of prehistoric life and ongoing discussions about de-extinction and climate change.
