WEU (Western European Union)

The Western European Union (WEU) was a security and defense alliance founded in 1954, initially aimed at fostering military cooperation among European nations. It included countries such as the UK, France, Germany, and Italy, among others. The WEU served as a forum for discussing defense issues and coordinating collective security efforts. However, as the European Union grew and took on more security responsibilities, the WEU became less significant. It was effectively dissolved in 2011, with its functions transferred to the EU, which now manages European defense and security policies.
