Wallace's Line
Wallace's Line is an imaginary boundary that separates the unique animal species of Southeast Asia from those of Australia. Named after British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace, this line runs between Bali and Lombok, and further separates the islands of the Philippines from those in the east. It highlights the distinct biodiversity on either side, as species on the Asian side, like tigers and elephants, differ greatly from those on the Australian side, such as kangaroos and koalas. This division reflects the historical land connections and evolutionary developments in the region.
