WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System)
The Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) is a technology used to improve the accuracy of GPS signals. Originally developed for aviation, it enhances the position data provided by GPS satellites by correcting errors caused by atmospheric conditions and satellite positioning. WAAS works by using ground-based reference stations that gather precise location information, then send correction signals to geostationary satellites, which broadcast these corrections back to users on the ground. This results in GPS accuracy being improved to within a few meters, making it more reliable for various applications, including navigation for planes, cars, and outdoor activities.
