Virtual LAN
A Virtual LAN (VLAN) is a technology that allows multiple virtual networks to coexist on the same physical network. Imagine a large office building where departments like HR and IT operate on separate floors but can still communicate. VLANs achieve this by grouping computers logically, regardless of their physical location. This improves network efficiency, enhances security by isolating sensitive data, and simplifies management. Essentially, VLANs allow different groups to have their own private network on shared infrastructure, optimizing resources and maintaining order.
