
Ur-Nammu (King of Ur)
Ur-Nammu was an ancient Sumerian king who ruled the city of Ur around 2100 BCE. He is credited with creating one of the earliest known legal codes and establishing strong central authority, which helped unify southern Mesopotamia. Ur-Nammu also oversaw major architectural projects, including building temples and ziggurats. His reign marked a period of stability and cultural development in early Mesopotamian civilization. As a pioneering lawmaker and builder, Ur-Nammu played a foundational role in shaping early urban society and governance.
