Umtapo (The Zulu War)

Umtapo, or the Zulu War, refers to the conflict that occurred in 1879 between the British Empire and the Zulu Kingdom in present-day South Africa. The war was sparked by British expansionist aims and dissatisfaction with Zulu leadership. It is most famous for the British defeat at the Battle of Isandlwana and the heroic stand at Rorke’s Drift. Although the British eventually won the war, it highlighted the strength and resilience of the Zulu people. The conflict had lasting effects on the region's history, colonial policies, and the relationship between indigenous peoples and European powers.
