Type II muscle fibers
Type II muscle fibers, also known as fast-twitch fibers, are muscle cells designed for quick, powerful movements. They generate force rapidly but fatigue faster than other fibers because they rely more on anaerobic (without oxygen) energy, making them ideal for activities like sprinting or heavy lifting. These fibers are larger in size and can produce greater strength in a short burst, but they don’t endure sustained activity as well as slow-twitch (Type I) fibers. Athletes focusing on explosive power often develop these fibers more effectively through specific training.
