troubadours

Troubadours were poets and musicians who flourished in the Occitan-speaking regions of medieval France from the 11th to 13th centuries. They composed lyrical poetry, often expressing themes of chivalry and romantic love, and typically performed their works in courts and public gatherings. Troubadours distinguished themselves by their use of vernacular language, which made their art accessible to a broader audience. Their tradition influenced the development of lyric poetry in Europe and inspired other musicians and poets, such as the trouvères in northern France and later developments in the Renaissance.
