Trisomy

Trisomy 21, also known as Down syndrome, is a genetic condition caused by the presence of an extra chromosome 21 in a person's cells. This results in a total of three copies of that chromosome instead of the usual two. The extra genetic material affects physical and intellectual development, leading to features like distinct facial traits, mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, and a higher risk of certain health issues. People with Down syndrome can lead fulfilling lives and often show strengths in social skills and emotional connection. Early intervention and supportive therapies can enhance their development and quality of life.
