Traumatic stress
Traumatic stress occurs when someone experiences or witnesses a deeply distressing event, such as a serious accident, violence, or disaster. It can trigger intense feelings of fear, helplessness, or horror, and may lead to symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares, emotional numbness, and difficulty trusting others. For some, these reactions can persist and interfere with daily life, a condition known as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Traumatic stress affects each person differently depending on their history, support system, and coping mechanisms, but with proper help, many recover and regain stability over time.
