Trappists (Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance)
Trappists, formally known as the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance, are a contemplative Christian monastic order founded in the 17th century as a reform of the Cistercian order. They focus on a life of prayer, meditation, and work while adhering to a strict communal lifestyle and the principles of simplicity and silence. Trappist monks and nuns live in monasteries, commit to vows of stability, obedience, and silence, and engage in various forms of labor, including farming and brewing. Their aim is to deepen their spiritual life and grow closer to God.
