Transit of Mercury
The Transit of Mercury is an astronomical event where the planet Mercury passes directly between the Earth and the Sun, appearing as a small black dot moving across the Sun’s face. These transits occur about 13 to 14 times each century. They can be observed with proper solar filters or equipment, but not with the naked eye to avoid eye damage. This phenomenon provides valuable data for astronomers, helping them understand Mercury's orbit and refine measurements of the Solar System. The last transit occurred on November 11, 2019, with the next one expected in 2032.
