Trafficking Victims Protection Act
The Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) is a U.S. law enacted in 2000 aimed at combating human trafficking. It establishes a framework to prevent trafficking, protect victims, and prosecute offenders. The Act recognizes that trafficking involves the exploitation of people through force, fraud, or coercion. It provides resources for victim support, such as counseling and legal aid, and promotes awareness and education about trafficking issues. The TVPA has been reauthorized multiple times, strengthening protections and expanding measures to combat this serious crime both domestically and internationally.
