tophi

Tophi are firm, yellowish nodules that form beneath the skin when uric acid crystals accumulate in the body. They commonly appear around joints such as the fingers, toes, elbows, and ears, often associated with chronic gout. These deposits are a result of high uric acid levels over time, which can cause inflammation, swelling, and pain. If left untreated, tophi can enlarge and damage surrounding tissues and joints. Managing uric acid levels through diet, medication, and lifestyle changes can help prevent or reduce tophi formation.
