Thresher disaster

The Thresher disaster refers to the tragic sinking of the USS Thresher, a nuclear submarine, on April 10, 1963, during deep-diving tests off the coast of Massachusetts. All 129 crew members aboard perished. The disaster prompted a major investigation, which revealed issues with the submarine's design and systems, particularly concerning safety protocols and equipment reliability. As a result, the U.S. Navy implemented significant changes to submarine safety and operation procedures, leading to improved standards and oversight, which have helped prevent similar tragedies in the future.
