Thoracentesis

Thoracentesis is a medical procedure used to remove excess fluid from the space between the lungs and the chest wall, known as the pleural space. Doctors typically perform this procedure to relieve breathing difficulties caused by fluid buildup, often due to conditions like pneumonia or heart failure.
