Pleuroscopy
Pleuroscopy, also known as video-assisted thoracoscopy, is a minimally invasive procedure used by doctors to examine the pleura, the thin membrane surrounding the lungs. During the procedure, a thin, flexible tube with a camera (thoracoscope) is inserted between the ribs to visualize the pleural space. This allows doctors to diagnose conditions, take fluid samples, or treat issues such as infections or tumors. Pleuroscopy typically requires only small incisions and is generally done under local anesthesia, making recovery quicker and less painful compared to traditional surgery.
