The Temple of Bel

The Temple of Bel was an ancient temple located in Palmyra, Syria, dedicated to the Mesopotamian god Bel, a symbol of the city’s prosperity and cultural significance. Built around 32 AD, it showcased impressive Hellenistic architecture with towering columns and ornate decorations, reflecting the blending of Greek and Roman influences. The temple served as a central place of worship and was a key landmark in the trade hub of Palmyra. Unfortunately, it was heavily damaged by extremist groups in 2015, highlighting the vulnerability of cultural heritage in conflict zones.
