Khaled Al-Asaad

Khaled Al-Asaad was a renowned Syrian archaeologist and scholar who dedicated his life to studying and preserving the ancient city of Palmyra. He served as the head of antiquities there for many years, helping to protect its priceless ruins and history. Tragically, in 2015, he was killed by militants who destroyed much of Palmyra's archaeological heritage.
