The Stonewall Riots

The Stonewall Riots were a series of spontaneous demonstrations by the LGBTQ+ community that began on June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City. Police raids on the bar were common, but this time patrons fought back, leading to several days of protests and clashes. The events are often credited with igniting the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement, inspiring activism and the formation of organizations advocating for equal rights. The anniversary of the riots is now celebrated each year as Pride Month, honoring the struggle for LGBTQ+ equality and acceptance.
