The Runaway Universe
The "Runaway Universe" refers to the observation that the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate. This discovery, made in the late 1990s, suggests that distant galaxies are moving away from us faster than nearby ones. The cause of this acceleration is attributed to a mysterious force known as dark energy, which appears to make up about 70% of the universe. As a result, over time, galaxies will drift apart, and the universe will continue to expand indefinitely, leading to a scenario where galaxies become increasingly isolated in a vast, cold cosmos.
