The Kingdom of Poland emerged in the High Middle Ages as a significant European state. In 966, Mieszko I, the first historic ruler, converted to Christianity, which helped unify Polish tribes and establish connections with Western Europe. The kingdom grew through strategic marriages, military conquests, and the development of towns. Poland was characterized by feudalism, with nobles holding power over lands. It faced challenges from neighboring tribes and later Mongol invasions. By the late 12th century, Poland was recognized as an important political entity, laying the groundwork for its cultural and territorial expansion in subsequent centuries.
