The Habitus (by Pierre Bourdieu)
Habitus, a concept by sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, refers to the ingrained habits, skills, and dispositions individuals acquire through life experiences, particularly within their social and cultural environments. It shapes our preferences, behaviors, and ways of thinking, often unconsciously. For example, habits learned in childhood can influence choices like hobbies, education, or even language. Habitus helps explain how social factors and individual actions interact, highlighting that our backgrounds significantly shape our identities and perspectives, and thus, our responses to the world around us.
