The Great Society
The Great Society was a series of domestic programs launched by President Lyndon B. Johnson in the 1960s aimed at eliminating poverty and advancing civil rights in the United States. Key initiatives included Medicare and Medicaid for healthcare, the Education Act for improved schooling, and various antipoverty programs. It also promoted environmental protection and cultural initiatives. The Great Society sought to create a more equitable society, expanding the federal government's role in social welfare and civil rights to improve the quality of life for all Americans, particularly the disadvantaged.
