The Glomar Explorer

The Glomar Explorer was a deep-sea research vessel built in the 1970s by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for a secret mission to recover a sunken Soviet submarine, K-129, from the Pacific Ocean. Designed to operate at great depths, it used advanced technology for underwater exploration. The operation was part of Cold War efforts to gather intelligence, but significant details remained classified for years. The ship's existence became widely known, leading to the phrase "Glomar response," used when an organization cannot confirm or deny the existence of information.
