Glomar Explorer
The Glomar Explorer was a large, specialized ship built by the U.S. in the 1970s, originally designed for deep-sea mining. However, it gained fame for its secret role in retrieving a sunken Soviet submarine, K-129, in 1974. The U.S. used the ship to secretly recover the submarine, which was part of Cold War intelligence efforts, without revealing its true purpose. The operation, called "Project Azorian," involved carefully lifting the submarine from the ocean floor while disguising the mission as a mining venture, showcasing advanced engineering and covert Cold War tactics.
