The D-Day Story
D-Day, taking place on June 6, 1944, was a pivotal event in World War II when Allied forces launched a massive invasion of Nazi-occupied France. Known as Operation Overlord, it involved landing approximately 156,000 troops on five beachheads in Normandy. This coordinated effort included American, British, Canadian, and other forces and was supported by extensive aerial and naval bombardment. The successful landings marked the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control, ultimately leading to the defeat of Germany in May 1945. D-Day is remembered for its bravery and sacrifice, as well as its significance in shaping modern history.
