The D-Day Invasion
D-Day refers to June 6, 1944, when Allied forces launched a massive invasion of Nazi-occupied France during World War II. This operation, known as the Normandy Landings, involved over 156,000 troops from the U.S., Britain, Canada, and other nations. They landed on five beach sectors along the French coastline. The invasion marked a pivotal turning point in the war, leading to the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control. Despite facing fierce resistance, the Allies established a crucial foothold, which ultimately contributed to the defeat of Germany in 1945.
