Mulberry Harbours
Mulberry Harbours were innovative temporary port facilities used by Allied forces during the D-Day invasion of Normandy in World War II in June 1944. Designed to quickly offload troops, vehicles, and supplies directly onto the French coast, these floating harbors allowed for a faster logistical operation than landing on traditional beaches. Constructed in Britain, they included breakwaters and piers that could be assembled at sea. Their successful deployment was crucial for sustaining the Allied invasion and ultimately contributed to the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi occupation.
