The Algol Paradox

The Algol Paradox refers to the phenomenon where the star Algol, known as a "binary star," appears to change brightness over time due to its two stars orbiting each other. When one star passes in front of the other from our viewpoint, it blocks some light, causing Algol to dim. However, the paradox arises because exact predictions of its brightness changes are complicated by the precise timing and alignment of the stars. This unpredictability challenges our understanding of celestial mechanics and reminds us of the complexities within seemingly simple astronomical observations.
