The ACE Study (document)
The ACE Study, or Adverse Childhood Experiences Study, is a significant research project that examined the long-term effects of childhood trauma on adult health. Conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Kaiser Permanente in the 1990s, it surveyed over 17,000 participants about their experiences with abuse, neglect, and family dysfunction. The findings revealed a strong link between these adverse experiences and various health issues, including mental illness, addiction, and chronic diseases. The study highlighted the importance of addressing childhood trauma to improve overall health and well-being throughout life.
