Tertiary Period

The Tertiary Period, lasting from about 66 million to 2.6 million years ago, is a significant era in Earth's history. It followed the age of dinosaurs and saw the rise of mammals and birds as dominant species. The period is divided into five epochs, including the Paleocene, Eocene, Oligocene, Miocene, and Pliocene. During the Tertiary, continents drifted to their current positions, climates changed, and many modern plants and animals emerged. This era set the stage for the development of human ancestors, highlighting a time of evolutionary innovation and ecological change.
