Teddy Sheean
Teddy Sheean was an Australian naval sailor during World War II, known for his bravery and sacrifice. In December 1942, while serving on the HMAS Armidale, he defended his ship against Japanese aircraft during an attack. After the ship was hit and began sinking, Sheean, instead of abandoning ship, manned a machine gun to protect his crew. His courageous actions saved lives, but ultimately, he was killed in the battle. Decades later, Sheean was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his heroism, becoming an enduring symbol of courage in Australian military history.
