Taenia
Taenia is a type of tapeworm, a flat, ribbon-shaped parasite that can infect humans and animals. People usually get infected by eating undercooked meat—commonly beef or pork—that contains larval tapeworms. Once inside the intestines, the tapeworm attaches to the lining and grows, sometimes reaching several meters. It absorbs nutrients from the host and can cause digestive issues, weight loss, or discomfort, although many infections are mild or symptomless. Proper cooking of meat, good hygiene, and regular deworming are key to preventing Taenia infections.
