swallow studies
Swallow studies, often called swallowing evaluations, are tests used to assess how well a person swallows. They help identify any problems that might cause choking or make eating and drinking unsafe. During these tests, patients may swallow different food textures or liquids while a doctor or therapist observes using video imaging, such as fluoroscopy. This allows them to see how the food moves through the throat and into the esophagus. The results guide recommendations for safe eating habits, dietary changes, or therapies to improve swallowing if needed.
