Surgical site infections

Surgical site infections (SSIs) are infections that occur at the site of a surgery. They can develop in the skin or deeper tissues after an operation. SSIs can happen due to bacteria entering through the surgical incision, often when proper hygiene is not maintained. Symptoms may include redness, swelling, pain, or pus at the site of the surgery. SSIs can lead to further complications, longer recovery times, and additional medical treatment. To reduce the risk, healthcare providers follow strict infection control practices, such as sterilizing instruments and providing antibiotics when necessary.
