superego

The superego is part of the mind that reflects our internalized morals, values, and ideals, acting as a moral compass. It develops through our upbringing, incorporating society’s rules and expectations. The superego guides us to behave ethically, often balancing our impulses and desires with what is socially acceptable. When our actions align with these internalized standards, we feel pride; when they violate them, we may experience guilt or shame. Essentially, the superego helps regulate our behavior by reinforcing what we consider right and wrong.
