Sudanese politics

Sudanese politics is characterized by a history of military coups and civil conflict. Sudan gained independence from Britain in 1956, and since then, various governments have struggled with issues like ethnicity, resource distribution, and religious identity. In 2019, after widespread protests, long-time dictator Omar al-Bashir was ousted. A transitional government was established, intended to lead to democratic elections. However, tensions between military leaders and civilian groups persist, leading to ongoing instability and conflict. The situation remains fluid, with international involvement and support for a peaceful transition to democracy still critical for Sudan's future.
