Sudan People's Liberation Army
The Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) was a rebel military organization that fought for the independence of South Sudan from Sudan. Established in 1983, it aimed to address issues of marginalization and inequality faced by the southern population. The SPLA played a central role in Sudan’s long-running civil war, eventually leading to the 2011 independence of South Sudan. It is now the official army of South Sudan, responsible for national defense and maintaining stability in the country. The SPLA’s history is closely tied to the struggle for self-determination and the complex political dynamics of the region.
