Sudan People’s Liberation Movement
The Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) is a political and military organization that originated in South Sudan during the struggle for independence from Sudan. Founded in 1983, the SPLM aimed to address issues like ethnic discrimination and political marginalization of southern regions by the northern Sudanese government. After decades of conflict, the SPLM played a key role in negotiating a peace agreement that led to South Sudan's independence in 2011. Today, the SPLM continues to influence politics in South Sudan, advocating for governance, human rights, and stability amidst ongoing challenges within the young nation.
