John Garang

John Garang was a Sudanese leader and military officer who played a key role in advocating for the rights of southern Sudanese people. He founded the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) and led efforts to end the long-standing civil war between the north and south of Sudan. Garang promoted peace, equality, and self-determination for the southern regions. His leadership helped eventually lead to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005, which laid the groundwork for Southern Sudan's independence. Garang was widely respected for his dedication to peace and his vision of a united, just Sudan.
