Stiftung Aufarbeitung

Stiftung Aufarbeitung, or the Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship, is a German organization focused on examining and reflecting upon the history of East Germany (the German Democratic Republic) from 1949 until its reunification with West Germany in 1990. Established in 1998, it aims to promote public awareness and understanding of the dictatorship's impact, including human rights abuses. The foundation conducts research, offers educational programs, and supports memorials to ensure that the lessons of this period are remembered and recognized, fostering dialogue on democracy, totalitarianism, and social justice.
