Sputum smear microscopy
Sputum smear microscopy is a medical test used to diagnose tuberculosis (TB) and other lung infections. During the test, a patient coughs up mucus (sputum) from their lungs, which is then placed on a glass slide and stained with special dyes. A laboratory technician examines the slide under a microscope to look for bacteria, especially those causing TB. If these bacteria are detected, it indicates an infection. This method is valuable because it's simple, cost-effective, and can provide results quickly, helping to initiate appropriate treatment for the patient.
