Spartacist League
The Spartacist League was a revolutionary socialist group in Germany, formed in 1916 during World War I. It originated from the left wing of the Social Democratic Party, led by figures like Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht. The League aimed to promote workers' revolution and establish a socialist government, inspired by the Russian Revolution of 1917. In January 1919, they were involved in the Spartacist Uprising, a failed attempt to overthrow the Weimar Republic. The crackdown on the uprising led to the deaths of its leaders and marked a significant moment in Germany's political history, contributing to the rise of extreme political divisions.
