South-to-North Water Diversion Project

The South-to-North Water Diversion Project is a large-scale engineering initiative in China aimed at redirecting water from the Yangtze River in the south to the northern regions, particularly Beijing and Tianjin, where water is scarce. Launched in 2002, it consists of three main routes: eastern, central, and western. The project addresses water shortages, supports agriculture, and promotes economic development in arid areas. While it provides vital resources, it also raises concerns about environmental impact and the displacement of communities along the water diversion paths.
