The Solvay process is a method for producing soda ash (sodium carbonate), an important chemical used in glass making, detergents, and paper. It involves reacting sodium chloride (salt) with calcium carbonate (limestone) in a series of steps that produce sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). This bicarbonate is then heated to form sodium carbonate, which is collected and purified.
